EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Corby Hellenic Fisher 5 v Earls Barton 2

1st February 2009

Earls Barton certainly had more of the play in Corby’s half in the opening 10 minutes but unfortunately Corby’s goalkeeper had a very good game and anything that was aiming on target was being dealt with by him. Corby took full advantage of our lack of challenging for the ball early on and on the few occasions they went forward they managed to score 2 goals very early in the game, leaving us to play catch up.

We have given away a good proportion of goals this season by allowing the opposition to play balls over the top of the defence and not being switched on when this happens. Both of the first 2 goals for Corby were created by the long ball coming from their own half and over the top for their forward to run on to. Blame is not solely on the defence because obviously being a team game we need to close out the opportunity to play those balls in the first place!!

We went in at half time 3 – 0 down.

After some half time encouragement we started to play better and with Dayne scoring a header and Ryan Addis sloting a goal in we were back in the race.

However, sometimes decisions don’t go your way. A goal that Earls Barton players argued had gone over the line was disallowed and soon after a strong call for offside lead to another goal for Corby.
Unfortunately although we put a lot of pressure on in the final 5 minutes, Corby managed to break again and made the difference too much to make up.

Note : I want to hear some encouragement and calling between the players on the pitch, you can be your team mates 2nd set of eyes and ears remember!
We need to be switched on from the first moment a ball is kicked.

Man of the Match – Ryan Brafield – he never gave up again....
