EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Earls Barton 5 v Weekley Rovers 3

1st March 2009

Barton went 1 – nil down within 5 minutes by a good goal from Weekley which left everyone thinking it could be one of those days. However, the ever faithful “head of Mr Brafield” came to the rescue from a good corner to level the score.

Earls Barton started to battle a lot more then and a good cross from the right hand side by John saw Keets get on the end and slot home the second goal. A few good saves from Rhys and a few near misses from Weekley ensured that we kept this lead. Keets added another one to his tally to give us what you would think is a good cushion.

However, Weekley also began to pile on some pressure and within 20 seconds scored their second with our defence turning off slightly for the first time in the game. As if that wasn’t bad enough Weekley then went on to score the equaliser almost straight from the next kick off !!

The pressure was on and tensions started to increase on the pitch. With end to end football for the next 5/10 minutes it could have gone either way, then a shot from no-one other than Joss Carter just over the half-way line which had to be the shot of the day, bounced off the underside of the bar for Dayne to head over the line, to give Earls Barton the lead at 4 – 3. (Joss I’d of given you the goal if I didn’t think Dayne would be upset!!).

5 minutes later with some good link up play, Keets was inside the box and was brought down from behind whilst sandwiched between two Weekley players. Although disputed by Weekley, the referee was 100% sure of his decision and Keets stepped up to slot home an excellent penalty.

Addis had a goal disallowed with just a couple of minutes left on the clock because of an off side call from the linesman, however the 5 – 3 was enough to give us all three points.

Each week I am beginning to struggle to choose a man of the match because so many more of you are giving a lot more effort. I could name 3 or 4 this week but I have given it to Stewart O’Bee because he challenged for everything and decisively got back to stop a goalscoring opportunity for Weekley which could have turned the game around.

Well done this week boys, very proud of your attitude and team spirit - keep it up !!!

Keith.
