EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Higham Colts 0 v Earls Barton 3

1st November 2009

All the action in today’s game was really in the first half. Earls Barton got off to a good start and created a few chances. It looked like Earls Barton were going to play the “hoofing it up the park” game for a short while, probably because of the wind playing a big role in the game today. Then 10 minutes into the game the ball was played into the box and a scramble began – was it going in or out ?? The Higham Keeper had cleared a headed shot from Keets and then collided with one of his own players who both finished up on the floor trying to clear it away, in comes Aaron to make sure that wasn’t going to happen and manage’s to send the ball over the line – go Aaron, go Aaron……….

Earls Barton’s second goal came from a great pass from the left just outside our own area. Captain Brayfield noticed Keets just inside the opposing half with just one defender to get past. Placing the ball at Keets’ feet Keets circled the player, with defenders coming in keets was one on one with the keeper but without panicking he managed to commit the keeper who went down allowing keets to pass the ball out to his right and place it in the middle of the goal.

Earls Barton continued to go forward and Higham also came close on a couple of occasions but the shots went wide or straight to Rhys.

When Antonio was brought down just outside the box Earls Barton were awarded a free kick. With spectators shouting for Tom to take it, Addis took control of the situation and told Tom where to go, he was determined to have this one. To be fair to him, he took a great free kick and sent the ball flying in to the back of the net.

3 nil at half time.

The wind got much stronger in the second half and the boys were well aware that they had to keep it tight with the wind in Highams favour.

I think the boys seemed happy with the score at half time and concentrated more on not allowing Higham to come back into the game in the second half.

The defending again today was excellent, the midfield always got back to help the back four - this has been a real downfall for our team in the past along with lack of fitness. Although I think it’s quite clear that everyone seems to be a lot fitter at this point compared to this time last year.

As I can’t give man of the match to everyone – a couple of mentions – I think Deanno and Antonio had good games today and Keets chased every opportunity again but my man of the match goes to Tom Allen, outstanding !! Well done boys keep up the good work.
