EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Raunds Town Red 3 vEarls Barton 6

8th March 2009

What a good game !!! Within the first 10 minutes John Aldridge ran down the right and whipped a shot passed the Raunds keeper only to given offside – then within minutes Raunds took a shot from just within their own half which flew in to the back of the net – good goal and nothing Rhys could have done to save it.

Raunds scored a 2nd shortly afterwards which the Earls Barton defence have to accept the blame for – COMMUNICATION BOYS!!

However, Earls Barton didn’t let it get to them this week and battled on and they were rewarded with John Aldridge doing exactly the same as with the first goal almost on the stroke of half time, this time the goal stood and we went in at half time 2 – 1 down.

In the second half it was end to end football for a while before Earls Barton started to take charge of the game with the goals shared out amongst 5 other players.

Nathan Burrows was first from inside the box - getting his foot on the end of a corner from Ryan Addis to level us at 2 all, this was followed by a good “pelter” from Aaron (who was obviously very pleased with himself!). Ryan Addis then also popped up with a quality goal to give us a cushion at 4 -2. It wasn’t long though before Raunds then came back with their 3rd goal which left our lead to a slim 4 -3. Fear not, at this time there was some good passing football going on between the Earls Barton boys and Ryan Keightley, not wanting to be left out of the list, received a good ball which he then managed to get on to his left foot and shoot another one home from just inside the box.

The talk of the game though – was the introduction at half time of Jacob Core at right back, being short of defender’s for this game Jacob was told he needed to slot in to this position. Marking someone 2 foot taller than him was a task in itself, however he stepped up to the mark and even had a couple of showboat moments along the way. The end of the game was near but not without him ensuring he made a name for himself when he decided to shoot from within his own half and the Raunds keeper misjudged the bounce of the ball only to find it bouncing over his head and in to the back of the net…………… Happy Jacob and game over.

Again, proud of your team spirit today, go out there with the belief that you can beat anyone and you probably can.

I have to congratulate Raunds too, it was a very good game with no bad attitude between either team.

Man of the match : again a few contenders this week but because of his “game to remember” I’ve given it to Jacob Core.
