Earls Barton 8 v Peterborough Hamptons 1
9th September 2007 |
|
Earls Barton Ladies got the season off in style with a very comfortable win over a below par Peterborough Hamptons side. Playing in front of a good audience, the game being played during the Club's Family Fun Day, the Ladies did themselves proud with a fine performance. Catherine Sealey and Sinead Barry renewed their partnership up front and each scored 4 goals. Catherine opened the scoring with a goal in the 18th minute followed by her second just a minute later. Barry then took over the scoring adding two more before half time - her second latching onto a great through ball from Donna Norman which Barry just coolly slotted past the keeper. Half time 4-0 Sealey took up the scoring again 3 minutes after the break smashing a shot onto the crossbar which bounced down onto the line and up and back into the net. Barton were really enjoying themselves now and turning on the style for their 'home fans' (the men's first team hanging around to watch the Ladies after their earlier kick off). Sinead scored number 6 with a fine solo run, Catherine scored no. 7 after some fine interplay between the midfield players and Sinead finished it off with number 8, 2 minutes from time. Hamptons got a consolation goal, much to the disgust of the Barton Keeper, when she was lobbed in the final minute. All in all a good start to the season with some good performances, not just from the goal scorers. The defence did their job making it a comfortable afternoon for the keeper, Shelley Norman and Rachel Callis in particular had fine games, Lauren Care caused the opposition problems all afternoon with her probing runs down the left, Emma Ogden made an impressive debut but overall I would be inclined to agree with the opposition for the player of the match and give that award to Sinead Barry.

Earls Barton 6 v Kingsthorpe 0
16th September 2007 |
|
Earls Barton got off to a flyer with a goal after just 38 seconds, Catherine Sealey scoring from a tight angle from the edge of the box after weaving her way through the Kingsthorpe players straight from the kick off. Barton, with the wind at their backs created several more chances before Lauren Green scored no 2 after 30 minutes, a corner pinged about in the area before 'Greeny' got the final touch to push it over the line. Half-time 2-0 After the break it was Kingsthorpe who had the wind at their backs and for 10 minutes Barton had a job getting the ball out of their own half, but on 55 minutes Catherine Sealey scored easily the best goal of the game when she received the ball from Lauren Care out on the left wing, turned and hit the ball on the volley into the net. Seven minutes later Sealey completed her hat trick, this time a tap in, after another good ball fed in from the left by 'Carey' right across the 6 yard box, Sealey getting to the ball before the keeper. Barton were now beginning to get their game together and the midfield started to feed some good balls through for the front two to run onto. Donna Norman latching onto such a ball after 71 minutes and coolly slotted the ball past the keeper. Lauren Care completed the scoring two minutes later firing in from the edge of the area. A bit of a scrappy game, not helped by the windy conditions, but a good result none-the-less. Notable performances today, Sheryl Robinson who played in goal for the first time in a league game and kept a clean sheet, Lauren Care voted Player of Match by the opposition and Emma Ogden voted Player of Match by the home team supporters for her strength and distribution in midfield. |

Kingsthorpe 1 v Earls Barton 2
24th September 2007 |
|
On another very windy Sunday afternoon Kingsthorpe and Earls Barton did battle again in a reverse of last weeks fixture. Barton had the wind with them in the first half and scored two goals before the break. Katie Newton played a defence splitting pass on 19 minutes which Katherine Sealey ran on to and slotted home. Three minutes later Sealey became provider for Donna Norman, crossing the ball to Norman who beat two defenders before scoring. Lauren Green deputising in goal, our third keeper in as many weeks, only had one save to make in the first half. Barton found the going hard in the second half kicking against the wind and picking up a few injuries. With no substitutes available today Barton were reduced to 10 players for a time with Captain Katie Newton having to leave the field for treatment to a knee injury and only limping back onto the field of play for the last 20 minutes to make the numbers up. With the wind behind them Kingsthorpe had a free kick on 70 minutes which Danielle Charlton cracked against the post from 30 yards out. Defender Rachel Callis then had to take a spell in goal as she was having trouble running. Kingsthorpe scored two minutes from time when a long bouncing ball beat the Barton defence and our stand-in stand-in keeper. With the Manager and Coach away our deputising manager Dave Green reported back that the whole team did him proud today and battled on through difficult circumstances to secure the 3 points. The visitors voted Donna Norman as player of the match and Dave gave that accolade to her sister Shelly so no arguing tonight in the Norman household |

Thorpelands 1 v Earls Barton 5
30th September 2007 |
|
Thorplands proved a hard nut to crack today with Barton being down to the bare bones of a team even the 'old' manager had to dust her boots off and give 90 minutes - plenty of Radox required after the game. Thorplands started quite brightly but Barton scored first after 7 minutes, Lauren Green played a through ball for Sinead Barry to latch onto and score. 9 minutes later it could have been 2 when Donna Norman,s shot struck the post. Thorplands then equalised with a brilliant shot/cross from the right which sailed over the Barton keeper into the net. This woke Barton up and they scored 3 more goals in a 5 minute spell just before half time, a second for Sinead Barry and two for Catherine Sealey. After the break Barton were creating chance after chance, most of them falling to Catherine Sealey but she had her boots on the wrong feet this week and fired most of them wide or straight to the keeper - we'll forgive her though she did manage to find the back of the net one more time on 60 minutes to seal her 3rd hat trick so far this season. Performances of note today, Caroline Kendhammer had a fine game in defence also having to go up to take the corners with our usual corner taker unavailable but overall player of the match awarded by the opposition goes to Donna Norman who worked tirelessly in midfield. |

Brackley Town 4 v Earls Barton 3
14th October 2007 |
|
Earls Barton lost their 100% record this afternoon in a very entertaining game at Brackley Town. Brackley is becoming a bit of a bogey side for Barton having lost their by the odd goal on their previous 2 visits. Barton took the lead after just 5 minutes. A good corner swung in from Lauren Care caused a bit of a goalmouth scramble and Emma Ogden prodded in her first goal for the club. The lead only lasted 3 minutes when Brackley were awarded a free kick just outside the box, the ball was smacked against the bar and one of their players was first to the rebound. Barton were taking a time to get into the swing today, that coupled with a Brackley side that were really fired up for the game and a goalkeeper in outstanding form found goals hard to come by for Barton in the first half. Chances were being created but time after time the Brackley goalkeeper came out and smothered the shots or just got a hand to them - she was easily voted their player of the match - or we were denied by the woodwork. Brackley's forward line beat the Barton offside trap with 2 quick goals on 39 and 40 minutes before Captain Katie Newton reduced the arrears with a neatly struck shot low into the corner. Two minutes later and Brackley had increased the lead to 4-2. After the break Barton pushed to get back into the game but were denied by some inaccurate shooting and again some fine saves from the keeper. Catherine Sealey did manage to score Barton's third on 75 minutes after some good play down the left by debutant Jade Brayfield, which set up an exciting last 15 minutes for Barton to find an equaliser and Brackley to hold on. Unfortunately for Barton it was the latter but nevertheless another good advert for ladies football expertly refereed by Bob Page. Notable performances for Barton today, Jade Brayfield slotted into the team nicely in her first game, Katie Newton had her best game of the season so far in midfield and capped it with a goal but overall player of the match, who was unfortunate not to get on the score sheet today, Sinead Barry. We look forward to the return leg. |

Peterborough Hamptons 2 v Earls Barton 4
21st October 2007 |
|
Both teams struggled to put a team out today, Hamptons only able to field 10 including a new signing and Barton also only having 10 including a new signing plus the manager.
With players playing out of position and playing when not really 100% fit it was a case of battle away and do what you can for the team and luckily for Barton it paid off. Half time 2-1
Barton were reduced to 10 in the second half as one of the midfielders picked up a back injury. Hamptons were pressing for an equaliser and working the Barton defence hard but they held out well. Star performances today - the whole of the Barton defence and keeper Lauren Green, Lauren Care on the left wing and debutant Naomi Dauncey but overall player of the match for Barton Sinead Barry. |
|
Earls Barton 3 v Raunds Town 3
28th October 2007 |
|
With several players out through injury and holidays Barton once again had only the bare bones of a team and had to play their get out of jail card to get a point today. Just as the ref blew the whistle for kick off so the heavens opened and it certainly dampened the spirits of the Earls Barton team. Barton could not string a couple of passes together today and Raunds were playing the better football. Not a lot really happening in the first half and just as it seemed the teams would go in for the break all square up popped Lauren Care who chased the ball down to the goal line cut it back neatly for Sheryl Robinson to slot past the keeper. H-T 1-0
With the slope now in Bartons favour and Raunds down to 10, we were looking to push on from the half time lead, but it was Raunds that found the net within a minute of the restart, Karen Britchford scoring her first of her hat trick. Two minutes later she scored no two and made it 3-1 on 70 minutes, her speed causing the Barton defence problems all afternoon. Barton were thankful to hear the final whistle and claim a point. Managers player of the match today Emma Ogden. I look forward to having a selection headache one of these weeks. |

Earls Barton 3 v Kettering Town Amazons 2
4th November 2007 |
|
Earls Barton had to work hard for their three points today but work hard they did and got the points they deserved in the end. Donna Norman, back from injury, scored the first on 22 minutes firing in from the edge of the area after the ball had been headed out from a corner. Both sides created further chances but the score remained the same at half time. Kettering scored early in the second half to bring the scores level before Katie York scored her second header of the season, nodding in from another corner ball. Kettering then piled on the pressure looking for a second equaliser and found it with an easy tap in on 69 minutes. Catherine Sealey, returning from a holiday in Mexico and a touch of deli-belly, came on for the last half hour and fired home the winning goal on 80 minutes. With a few key players missing and several players having to play in unfamiliar positions the team worked well for one another today and dug in and got the result. Player of the match voted by the opposition - Goal keeper Hollie McKain. Manager's player of the match - Jade Brayfield. |

AFC Trinity 8 v Earls Barton 4
18th November 2007 (County Cup) |
|
On a very cold wet Sunday afternoon at the Racecourse these two teams served up a feast of goals in a game that swung one way and then the other and back again before Trinity finally saw off Barton's chances of going any further in this cup competition. Trinity opened the scoring after just 5 minutes. Catherine Sealey levelled the scores 5 minutes later, Donna Norman made it 1-2 on 16 minutes, Catherine Sealey got her second on 28 minutes and Lauren Green poked one in from a corner on 33 minutes, 1-4 you would think that would be game set and match for Barton, but Trinity had other ideas and scored two before half time to set up an interesting second half. Trinity were obviously inspired by their two goals just before the break and came out fired up for the second half and got the equaliser two minutes in. Barton were now under the cosh and finding it difficult to get the ball out of their own half for long periods. Trinity got the all important next goal on 65 minutes and then finished off Barton, who were now reduced to 10 players through injury, with three goals in the last 10 minutes. Player of the match for Barton today, Shelley Norman. |
|
Daventry Town 5 v Earls Barton 2
25th November 2007 |
|
The top two fought out a fairly even contest this afternoon, Barton being undone by Daventry's clinical finishing and several of Barton's players only performing at half strength due to illness and injury comebacks. The game was even for the first 20 minutes with both sides getting to know one another. Daventry broke the deadlock on 24 minutes then scored another quick double before Barton pulled one back with a fine strike from the left, Loz Care returning from injury showing us what we have been missing. Daventry then restored their 3 goal advantage just on the stroke of half time. After the break both sides created several scoring chances with each side scoring just one more each, Daventry on 53 minutes and Catherine Sealey on 65 minutes for Barton. Catherine Sealey was voted player of the match by the opposition, as she often is, but the Barton management team gave that award to Lauren Green who had a fine game in the heart of defence. Overall the whole team performed well under difficult circumstances and should be applauded for dragging themselves off their sick beds and treatment tables to fulfil the fixture. |
|
Rothwell Town 12 v Earls Barton 1
16th December 2007 |
|
A very depleted Earls Barton team were taught a lesson in passing and moving today. Both teams only able to field 10 players, but Rothwells 10 outplayed Earls Barton 10.
Rothwell opened the scoring with just 4 minutes on the clock and then went on to score another 4 before Barton pulled one back through Catherine Sealey just before half time. Barton huffed and puffed but with regular players missing from all parts of the field they found it difficult to get any fluid movement going to break down a strong Rothwell team. We must always look for the positives out of a disappointing result - Chelsea Carter finally made her debut and did well in difficult circumstances, Sheryl Robinson deputised in goal, and despite the score line handled things well, and Emma Ogden playing against her old team played well in midfield, if a little frustrated at times. Player of the match voted by the opposition Catherine Sealey, player of the match for me was Emma Ogden. We now look forward to the Christmas Break and hopefully having a full squad fit and available in the New Year. HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE. |
