Earls Barton 3 v AFC Trinity 7

6th January 2008

With 3 goal keepers in the squad and not one of them available this weekend Barton knew they were going to have to work hard to keep the score respectable. But that was before the smallest girl in the squad stood up and said I'll give it a go and played a blinder, if only she was 6ft 4" instead of 4ft 6" we might even have won the game.

Trinity were gifted their first goal when our stand in keeper made her only mistake of the game mis kicked the ball straight out to a Trinity player who had the simple task of slotting it back into the net. Trinity scored twice more before Barton pulled one back through Sinead Barry, Chelsea Carter winning the ball on the wing, played it inside to Lauren Care who slid the ball through to Barry to take on and fire past the oncoming keeper. Barton were unlucky not to reduce the arrears further in the first half when Donna Norman struck the post.

H-T 1-3

Barton worked hard to get back into the game but a much improved Trinity team managed to find another goal every time Barton clawed one back. Sinead Barry scored all of Barton's goals on her return from injury, welcome back Sinead, the second probably the best goal of the game when she looped the ball from outside the area high over the keepers head and into the goal.
With several key players missing again today this was probably the best 'team' display of the season, with all of the girls working hard for one another and giving their all for the cause.
Player of the match voted by the opposition, Sinead Barry, but for me the player of the match award has to be handed to our brave keeper Rachael Callis, without her it could have been a different story.

Earls Barton 10 v Thorpelands 3

13th January 2008

Earls Barton got back on track today being able to field a full squad for the first time in a couple of months. Barton got off to a flyer with a goal in the first minute, Lauren Care taking the ball down the left wing and cutting it back for Donna Norman to fire past the keeper. Norman scored her second on 15 minutes, this time a longer range effort from outside the box and completed her hat trick 5 minutes later, again after good work down the left wing. Catherine Sealey got no. 4 on 34 minutes, after good movement between her and Sinead Barry, before Thorplands pulled one back, making the score 4-1 at half time.

After the break it was Sinead Barry's turn to score a hat trick, her first coming on 50 minutes, Lauren Care and Catherine Sealey scored in between with Barry's second on 60 minutes and third and probably best goal, a thundering header into the top right corner after a brilliant cross from the right by Catherine Sealey on 70 minutes. Thorplands then scored two break away goals before Emma Ogden finished off the scoring in the last minute.

Player of the match voted by the opposition for the second week running Sinead Barry, I too would go along with that but would have to include Donna Norman who had a fine game in midfield.

Thorplands should be commended for their team spirit and attitude to the game - even though they were losing they played with a smile on their faces and worked for one another - well done ladies.

Earls Barton 1 v Daventry Town 6

3rd February 2008

The difference between the two sides today was the finishing, Daventry Town finished off their chances, Earls Barton could not. Barton found themselves 2 goals down in the first 12 minutes but credit to the girls they fought their way back into the game and were unlucky not to score before Daventry scored their third on 40 minutes. Three minutes later Donna Norman pulled one back for Barton but a crisply struck free kick just before half time gave Daventry their 3 goal cushion again.

After the break Barton pressed to get back into the game but some wild shots and a brilliant save from the Daventry keeper kept Barton at Bay. Daventry then undid any good work Barton were trying to put together with two more break away goals in the second half.

Contenders for player of the match today - Rachael Callis who made some very brave saves in goal, Jade Brayfield who made some fine runs down the left wing and got in some good crosses and improves with each match she plays but overall my POM award goes to Chelsea Carter who never stopped running, chased everything and came very close to scoring.

Although we lost the game, it was not a bad performance and I think the score line flattered the Daventry team. I wish them well for next season when it looks like they will be playing in a higher league.

Earls Barton 4 v Brackley Town 6

10th February 2008

Brackley Town are certainly proving to be Earls Barton's bogey side, yet again Barton took a comfortable lead only for Brackley to fight back and take the points.

Sinead Barry opened the scoring with a contender for quickest goal of the season, just 23 seconds on the clock. The ball being fed to her straight from the kick off, she took it on and fired low and hard into the far corner of the net. Three minutes later it was 2-0, Donna Norman firing from the right and the keeper could only parry it into the net at her near post. Sinead Barry scored no 3 on 17 minutes heading in a well delivered corner from Lauren Care. 5 minutes later Brackley pulled one back to make the score 3-1 at half time.

Barton knew from past experience that the next goal was vital. Unfortunately for them it was Brackley that scored it 10 minutes into the second half. Three minutes later it was 3-3 and panic was setting into the Barton defence. Brackley's long balls over the top of the Barton defence for their speedy front two to run onto were catching Barton out and leaving the keeper stranded. On 65 minutes Brackley took the lead for the first time in the game but Barton responded well and new signing Taleisha Holder scored on her debut 8 minutes later. The next goal was crucial and Brackley scored it on 77 minutes and settled the match with the final goal on 84 minutes which left the Barton team and management wondering how on earth we could lose a game which we were so much in control of in the first half. That's football I guess.

Earls Barton's player of the match today, voted by the opposition was Jade Brayfield.

Kettering Town Amazons 1 v Earls Barton 3

17th February 2008

After two straight home defeats Earls Barton got back to winning ways with an away win at Kettering. Earls Barton took an early lead when Sinead Barry nodded in a precisely delivered corner from Lauren Care with just 6 minutes on the clock. Barton created further chances but could not find the all important second goal before Kettering scored the equaliser on 32 minutes. Four minutes later a free kick in the centre of the field was flicked on for Sinead Barry to slot past the keeper. Right on the stroke of half time Donna Norman's shot went through the keepers hands and crept over the line.

After the break both teams created further chances but some fine goal keeping by the Kettering keeper and a much tighter Earls Barton defence this week meant the score remained the same at the final whistle.

It was good to have our no.1 keeper back in goal this week, the defence was well led by our player of the match Shelley Norman and our new signing Taleisha Holder and Sinead Barry look as though they may well form a good partnership up front.

AFC Trinity 1 v Earls Barton 2

24th February 2008

This was not a pretty team performance from the Earls Barton girls today but a gutsy hard working one which paid huge dividends with the final whistle.

Barton got off to a flyer with a goal after just 27 seconds, front girl Taleisha Holder chasing onto a through ball, the defender back passed the ball to the keeper under pressure and not being able to pick the ball up the keeper miskicked the ball and Taleisha followed up and tapped into an empty net. As the game progressed so Trinity came into it more and pressurised our defence looking to get back on level terms. The defence held out for 30 minutes with some good work between the sticks by Hollie McKain but then the equaliser came with a well struck goal. All to play for now but it was Barton that scored the all important 2nd goal just before half time, good work by Donna Norman in midfield again finished off by Taleisha Holder.

After the break it was really a case of digging deep, with no substitutes available and a few players feeling under the weather, we knew Trinity were going to throw everything they had at us and we had to hold strong. Most of the second half was spent in our own half defending with the occasional break away to give our defence a breather. But hold strong we did with some good performances by Shelley Norman and Katie York in the heart of defence, Jade Brayfield on the left wing (voted player of the match by the opposition) and safe handling by keeper McKain.

Barton's player of the match voted by the coach and manager, Katie York.

Raunds Town 7 v Earls Barton 0

30th March 2008

Earls Barton struggled to get their game together today after a month without any games. The story of our season this year is not being able to field a settled side week in week out and it certainly showed today, with players missing, those that were available having to play out of position and one or two struggling with injuries/illness but having to battle on due to lack of substitutes.

Not to take anything away from Raunds, they thoroughly deserved their win, played together as a team and were first to everything.

With the score 2-0 at half time the game was far from over if only Barton could get a goal back but it was Raunds who found the net again and again and again and sunk the Barton girls hearts.

Despite the score line Rachael Callis our stand in keeper was voted player of the match by the opposition on her final game for Barton before she goes off travelling for 12 months.

With just one game left this season at home to Rothwell Barton will have to regroup and recruit in preparation for next season.

Earls Barton 4 v Rothwell Town 2

6th April 2008

Earls Barton finished off their league campaign on a high with a fine win against Rothwell Town. After last week's dismal display against Raunds it was good to have the chance to put that performance to bed once and for all.

Barton started brightly and took the lead after 17 minutes, Lauren Green knocked the ball through from defence for Chelsea Carter to lay off into the path of Sinead Barry who took the ball on and rounded the keeper. It was not all one way traffic by any means, 10 man Rothwell created plenty of chances themselves and drew the scores level on 27 minutes. Barry then doubled her's and Barton's score on 38 minutes Lauren Care this time splitting the defence for Barry to run onto and blast past the keeper. Two minutes later Donna Norman scored no. 3 after another good lay off from Lauren Care.

Half-time 3-1

After the break Rothwell really pushed to try and get back into the game but the Barton defence stood firm. The second half remained goalless until 5 minutes from time, Jade Brayfield, who had a fine game on the left wing for Barton, went on a solo run, her shot was parried by the keeper Jade managed to collect the spillage and knock the ball into the path of Chelsea Carter for her to score her first game for the Ladies team. Rothwell scored a second two minutes before the final whistle, Barton stand in keeper Sheryl Robinson made a fine save from the initial shot but was unlucky not to hold on to the ball and the Rothwell player slid the loose ball into the net.

Some good performances today notably Sheryl Robinson had a fine game in goal and helped the team out of a tricky situation; the two youngest members of the squad had fine games and continue to improve - Chelsea Carter played well on the right wing and scored her first goal, Jade Brayfield played well on the left and almost got in on the scoring act; Lauren Care had a good game playing in a more central position and Sinead Barry was voted player of the match by the opposition.

Well played Ladies - nice to finish the season on a happy note.
