Wittlich - Wellingborough Twinning

For the last 15 years an exchange trip has been organised between Earls Barton United F.C. and Wittlich town in southern Germany, not far from the border with Luxembourg. Every other year a group of our young footballers along with adults from the club visit Wittlich and stay with exchange families for a few days during the Easter holidays. Unfortunately, this year the school easter holidays fell outside the Easter weekend which meant we were unable to take our group of children to Germany. So that the strong link between our communities was not broken, a group of adults involved with the football club went to Wittlich over the Easter weekend. Mainly committee members and their partners were met at the airport by Roland and friends. Roland has been our main point of contact over the years and he'd organised various trips for us over the weekend. We were met by the mayor of Luxem on Good Friday who escorted the group for a tour of the town of Luxem and given some interesting historical facts.
During the weekend a day trip to Koln was also organised. The weather was similar to here in the UK with snow falling and settling on the ground. The warm hospitality and close friendship of our colleagues made up for the low temperatures outside as we were made to feel welcome by all we met.

Next year we will reconvene with our normal routine and hope to take the girls football team for the first time on the exchange. A very strong link continues to strive between the two towns and will continue to do so for many years to come.
