Earls Barton 2 v Drayton Grange 5
2nd November 2008 NTFA Cup |
|
What a difference a couple of weeks can make. Three weeks ago in the league Barton beat Drayton Grange 8-0 but today the same Barton team did not turn up. Perhaps going behind in the first minute of the game knocked the stuffing out of them but Barton did not play to their potential today. They could not keep possession, string more than 2 passes together, challenge for the second ball - all of the things they had begun doing so well before the 2 week break. Megan Watkins did manage to keep up her scoring rate, firstly equalising on 30 minutes and then again on 37 minutes after Grange had restored their lead on 31 minutes, latching onto a diagonal ball from Emily Baldry and rounding the keeper. But perhaps the team are relying on Megan too much. H-T 2-2 After the break Barton pushed to go in front but the front pair were caught 'offside' time after time - something for them to work on. Grange then broke away on 68 minutes to go ahead again and this time Barton could not find the equalising goal. Two minutes later Grange scored again making the game safe and their fifth and final goal on 75 minutes was just the icing on the cake for them. Player of the match for Barton today goes to Alix Daverson.on the right wing who despite her size manages to shake off any challenge and whips down the right wing, followed closely by Emily Baldry and Kerry Lawrence who both had fine games in defence. |
