Earls Barton 1 v Daventry Town 6

The difference between the two sides today was the finishing, Daventry Town finished off their chances, Earls Barton could not. Barton found themselves 2 goals down in the first 12 minutes but credit to the girls they fought their way back into the game and were unlucky not to score before Daventry scored their third on 40 minutes. Three minutes later Donna Norman pulled one back for Barton but a crisply struck free kick just before half time gave Daventry their 3 goal cushion again. After the break Barton pressed to get back into the game but some wild shots and a brilliant save from the Daventry keeper kept Barton at Bay. Daventry then undid any good work Barton were trying to put together with two more break away goals in the second half. Contenders for player of the match today - Rachael Callis who made some very brave saves in goal, Jade Brayfield who made some fine runs down the left wing and got in some good crosses and improves with each match she plays but overall my POM award goes to Chelsea Carter who never stopped running, chased everything and came very close to scoring. Although we lost the game, it was not a bad performance and I think the score line flattered the Daventry team. I wish them well for next season when it looks like they will be playing in a higher league. |
