EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Kingsthorpe Jags 4 v Earls Barton 4

5th April 2009

The game today swung one way and then the other and ended with an equalising goal in the dying seconds which was no more than Barton deserved.
Having beaten Barton 8-1 earlier in the season Jags must have thought they were in for an easy afternoon but it proved far from easy. Jags broke the deadlock on 22 minutes with a scrappy goal bundled over the line but Barton battled back and it was captain Donna Norman's persistence that led to the equaliser 7 minutes later, closing down a Jags defender near the right corner flag, winning the ball and feeding Amy Moore who lofted her left foot shot over the keeper. Five minutes later Jags had restored the lead with another scrappy goal.

H-T 2-1

Barton were confident at half time that they could get back into the game and 5 minutes into the second half Lauren Care scored the equaliser with a 25 yard shot high into the left hand corner of the net. 15 minutes later Jade Brayfield put Barton in front, Amy Moore laying off for Jade to slot into the far right hand corner. Unfortunately for Barton and Brayfield, Jags equalised almost immediately when Jade tried to clear a ball in her own box only to head the ball past her own keeper and into the net.

With four minutes of the game remaining Jags thought they had won the game when they scored their best goal of the game, but Barton did not want to waste all their hard work and pressed once again for an equaliser which they found in the dying seconds, Donna Norman crossing the ball into the box which Amy Moore managed to get her toe to ahead of the advancing keeper.

A good all round team performance today from the Barton girls, Natasha Smith had another solid game in defence, Lauren Care fought hard for the team back in her favoured position of left wing, Donna Norman worked hard up front alongside my player of the match Amy Moore, whose speed, strength and determination caused the Jags defence problems all afternoon.
