EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Drayton Grange 0 v Earls Barton 8

5th October 2008

On a very soggy Sunday morning in Daventry Earls Barton put on one of their best displays of the season to date (I think we are going to pray for rain every match day). Megan Watkins opened her account on 10 minutes running onto a long ball and coolly slotting past the keeper. Five minutes later Kelly Hewitt scored from a nice lay off from Megan. Two minutes later Lucy Green scored with a sweetly struck volley which no junior keeper would have been able to save.

H-T 0-3

After the break Drayton tried to get back into the game and held Barton off for a while but Megan soon found her shooting boots again after a nice lay off from Kelly Hewitt. A minute later Kelly Hewitt got her second of the day after Jo Morton fed the ball through the middle for her to run onto and score. Megan scored probably her best goal of the game on 58 minutes with a sweet left foot volley into the far right hand corner of the net. Goal no. 7 came on 65 minutes, Megan again running onto a through ball and rounding the keeper. Megan's 5th and final goal of the game came just a couple of minutes before time, Kelly Hewitt running onto the keepers long kick, making a diagonal pass for Megan to finish off a very satisfactory day for her and the team.

With only a bare 11 available today the whole team put in a very good performance. The defence worked well together and soaked up any attacks Drayton had, Katie Newman in goal made 2 excellent saves in the second half to keep a clean sheet, the girls playing in the centre of midfield did well considering they are not used to playing there and the front two did what they are good at and played off one another to score the teams goals.

Player of match award today is split between two players, Megan Watkins for scoring 5 goals and, Emily Baldry playing at center back. These two players are playing the best I have ever seen them play - long may it continue.
