EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Earls Barton 3 v AFC Trinity 7

6th January 2008

With 3 goal keepers in the squad and not one of them available this weekend Barton knew they were going to have to work hard to keep the score respectable. But that was before the smallest girl in the squad stood up and said I'll give it a go and played a blinder, if only she was 6ft 4" instead of 4ft 6" we might even have won the game.

Trinity were gifted their first goal when our stand in keeper made her only mistake of the game mis kicked the ball straight out to a Trinity player who had the simple task of slotting it back into the net. Trinity scored twice more before Barton pulled one back through Sinead Barry, Chelsea Carter winning the ball on the wing, played it inside to Lauren Care who slid the ball through to Barry to take on and fire past the oncoming keeper. Barton were unlucky not to reduce the arrears further in the first half when Donna Norman struck the post.

H-T 1-3

Barton worked hard to get back into the game but a much improved Trinity team managed to find another goal every time Barton clawed one back. Sinead Barry scored all of Barton's goals on her return from injury, welcome back Sinead, the second probably the best goal of the game when she looped the ball from outside the area high over the keepers head and into the goal.
With several key players missing again today this was probably the best 'team' display of the season, with all of the girls working hard for one another and giving their all for the cause.
Player of the match voted by the opposition, Sinead Barry, but for me the player of the match award has to be handed to our brave keeper Rachael Callis, without her it could have been a different story.
