EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Earls Barton 4 v Rothwell Town 2

6th April 2008

Earls Barton finished off their league campaign on a high with a fine win against Rothwell Town. After last week's dismal display against Raunds it was good to have the chance to put that performance to bed once and for all.

Barton started brightly and took the lead after 17 minutes, Lauren Green knocked the ball through from defence for Chelsea Carter to lay off into the path of Sinead Barry who took the ball on and rounded the keeper. It was not all one way traffic by any means, 10 man Rothwell created plenty of chances themselves and drew the scores level on 27 minutes. Barry then doubled her's and Barton's score on 38 minutes Lauren Care this time splitting the defence for Barry to run onto and blast past the keeper. Two minutes later Donna Norman scored no. 3 after another good lay off from Lauren Care.

Half-time 3-1

After the break Rothwell really pushed to try and get back into the game but the Barton defence stood firm. The second half remained goalless until 5 minutes from time, Jade Brayfield, who had a fine game on the left wing for Barton, went on a solo run, her shot was parried by the keeper Jade managed to collect the spillage and knock the ball into the path of Chelsea Carter for her to score her first game for the Ladies team. Rothwell scored a second two minutes before the final whistle, Barton stand in keeper Sheryl Robinson made a fine save from the initial shot but was unlucky not to hold on to the ball and the Rothwell player slid the loose ball into the net.

Some good performances today notably Sheryl Robinson had a fine game in goal and helped the team out of a tricky situation; the two youngest members of the squad had fine games and continue to improve - Chelsea Carter played well on the right wing and scored her first goal, Jade Brayfield played well on the left and almost got in on the scoring act; Lauren Care had a good game playing in a more central position and Sinead Barry was voted player of the match by the opposition.

Well played Ladies - nice to finish the season on a happy note.
