Earls Barton 4 v Drayton Grange 3
6th May 2009 |
|
Earls Barton finished off their league programme with a win over Drayton Grange in a game that really proved to be a game of two halves. Barton were winning 4-0 by half time and cruising to a comfortable win, but Drayton Grange came out determined to battle in the second half and scored 3 goals and made Barton sweat for their victory. Emily Baldry opened the scoring for Barton five minutes into the game with a low hard drive from 30 yards which flashed past the diving keeper. Melanie McIvor was very unlucky not to score minutes later when her shot from the right crashed against the crossbar and bounced down on the line. Amy Green made it 2-0 2 minutes later, Megan Watkins providing the pass which Amy slotted past the keeper. It was all Barton pressure, the new 4-3-3 formation creating chance after chance. Megan Watkins scored no 3 on 20 minutes latching onto a cross from Emily Baldry inside the box and a minute later direct from the restart Barton worked the ball down the centre, good link up play from Amy Green and Megan Watkins, for Megan to finish off the move of the game. h-t 4-0 Drayton came out with a game plan in the second half to man mark our influential players out of the game and it almost paid dividends. They scored a goal back on 47 minutes which gave them hope and 9 minutes later got a second which seemed to upset Barton's rhythm. Two minutes later Drayton were awarded a penalty which they duly converted and made for a frantic final 20 minutes, Barton managing to steady the ship but could not find the net again to make it a more comfortable win. My player of the match tonight goes to Melanie McIvor, whose speed down the right flank caused Drayton problems in the first half and she was very unlucky not to score a goal with several chances just going wide of the goal. |
