Earls Barton 8 v Moulton Magpies 0

6th December 2008

After last week's goalless draw Earls Barton found the goals a little easier to come by this week against Moulton Magpies who could only field 9 players.
Jo Morton scored a rare goal for her after 15 minutes, Alix Daverson cutting the ball back into the 18 yard box for Jo to fire past the keeper on the volley.
Two minutes later Megan Watkins scored her first of a double hat-trick running onto a ball played over the defence by Amy Green and slotting past the keeper. No 3 came on the half hour mark Megan this time running onto a defence splitting pass from Emily Baldry, before notching goals no 4 and 5 in similar fashion.

Half time 5-0

10 minutes into the second half Megan scored no 6 after the ball had been headed on and she scored from an acute angle on the right of the box. Five minutes later it was Mel McIvor's turn to get on the score sheet, Emily Baldry again the provider, having chased the ball into the box and cutting it back for Mel to fire in from 12 yards. Welcome back Mel - having just returned from a fractured ankle. Five minutes before time Megan completed her double hat trick with probably her easiest goal of the game, tapping in from close range after several other players had shot but the ball had been blocked and rebounded, so she finished off what they could not.

Although the score line makes for an easy win for Earls Barton, praise must go to the Moulton Magpies team for the way in which they battled, even though they knew it was going to be hard work, and if they could just find one or two more players they would be a very good and hard team to beat.

A good confidence boosting performance for Earls Barton today, well led by captain Emily Baldry, but I suppose if a player scores 6 goals in one game it would be harsh not to give her player of the match, therefore my player of the match today has to go to Megan Watkins.
