EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Earls Barton 8 v Peterborough Hamptons 1

9th September 2007

Earls Barton Ladies got the season off in style with a very comfortable win over a below par Peterborough Hamptons side. Playing in front of a good audience, the game being played during the Club's Family Fun Day, the Ladies did themselves proud with a fine performance.

Catherine Sealey and Sinead Barry renewed their partnership up front and each scored 4 goals. Catherine opened the scoring with a goal in the 18th minute followed by her second just a minute later. Barry then took over the scoring adding two more before half time - her second latching onto a great through ball from Donna Norman which Barry just coolly slotted past the keeper.

Half time 4-0

Sealey took up the scoring again 3 minutes after the break smashing a shot onto the crossbar which bounced down onto the line and up and back into the net. Barton were really enjoying themselves now and turning on the style for their 'home fans' (the men's first team hanging around to watch the Ladies after their earlier kick off). Sinead scored number 6 with a fine solo run, Catherine scored no. 7 after some fine interplay between the midfield players and Sinead finished it off with number 8, 2 minutes from time.

Hamptons got a consolation goal, much to the disgust of the Barton Keeper, when she was lobbed in the final minute.

All in all a good start to the season with some good performances, not just from the goal scorers. The defence did their job making it a comfortable afternoon for the keeper, Shelley Norman and Rachel Callis in particular had fine games, Lauren Care caused the opposition problems all afternoon with her probing runs down the left, Emma Ogden made an impressive debut but overall I would be inclined to agree with the opposition for the player of the match and give that award to Sinead Barry.
