EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Earls Barton 7 v Moulton Fields 0

County Cup R1
11th October 2008

Earls Barton got through the 1st round of the league cup thanks to Megan Watkins 7 goals. Megan is in a rich vein of form at the moment, everything she touches ends up in the back of the net, and long may it continue.

Moulton could only field 10 players but they certainly made Barton work hard for their victory and all credit goes to the Moulton girls for their battling performance.

Barton opened their account on 9 minutes, ever improving Alix Daverson whipped in a lovely cross from the right which Megan got on the end of, the ball deflecting off a defender into the goal, but like all good strikers Megan claimed it. Barton created further chances in the first half but some good keeping from the Moulton goalie kept the score at 1-0 at half time.

Five minutes into the second half Megan scored her's and Barton's second, running onto a through ball and slotting past the keeper. No.3 came on 50 minutes after a good 1-2 with Courtney McDaid, No. 4 five minutes later finishing another good ball fed into the box by Alix Daverson. Then it was Moulton's turn to get on the score sheet with a couple of well taken goals making the score 4-2 with 17 minutes to play. But Megan was still hungry, picking up a rebound from Ashleigh Goodman's shot on 67 minutes, tapping in another a minute later and finishing a goalmouth scramble from a corner on 75 minutes.

Barton proved today they can play without Kelly Hewitt, who has decided to move to 'pastures red', Kayleigh McNeill filling Kelly's position well on her debut. The partnership of Watkins and McNeill can only improve with time.

Barton's player of the match today has to go to Megan Watkins not only for her 7 goals but her overall workman like performance.
