Earls Barton 1 v Kingsthorpe 4

This was a much closer game than the scoreline suggests and had Barton not 'gifted' Kingsthorpe 2 goals in the first half the outcome may have been different. The first goal came on 15 minutes after the Barton defence played the ball into the path of a Kingsthorpe player in the 18 yard box and she had the easy task of slotting past the keeper. The second goal six minutes later was an unfortunate slip by the Barton keeper allowing the ball through her hands her only mistake in an otherwise very good performance. H-T 0-2 Barton were still in the game and although Kingsthorpe created more chances than Barton it was Megan Watkins who scored the next goal on 54 minutes, firing into the roof of the net from an acute angle after running on to a good through ball. Barton pushed to try and find an equaliser but Kingsthorpe scored again on 75 minutes to secure the points and got a fourth 3 minutes from time to make the scoreline somewhat flattering. Some good performances again today, in particular Gina Loziou, Kerry Lawrence and Sara Coulter-Brophy in defence, Alix Daverson on the left wing and Megan Watkins who worked tirelessly in attack but needs someone else to play alongside her but overall my player of the match award goes to Amy Green in goal. |
