EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Kingsthorpe 7 v Earls Barton 0

15th November 2008

The score line does not really give a true reflection of the game today. Although Kingsthorpe had us pinned in our own half for the first 20 minutes or so the defence held out and apart from one slip up after 10 minutes we were quite happy to go in only 1-0 down at half time. The slope and the wind always has a part to play at Cogenhoe, where Kingsthorpe play their home games, and we were hoping having played against both in the first half we could use it to our advantage in the second. But it was Kingsthorpe who scored the second most important goal 7 minutes into the second half and a penalty 3 minutes and a third goal quickly followed knocking the stuffing out of Barton. Kingsthorpe scored a further 3, Barton unable to convert any of their efforts, even golden boots Megan could not find the back of the net today.

Barton are beginning to play good football, but are not strong and confident enough in their play, this will come with time, in the mean time we just have to keep training hard and improving.

There were several good performances from the Barton girls today, Kerry Lawrence and Sarah Coulter-Brophy had fine games in defence but my overall player of the match goes to Alix Daverson on the right wing who never stopped running, getting back to help the defence when needed and trying to play the front players in when possible.
