EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Earls Barton 0 v Corby S&L Ladies 1st 13

16th November 2008

County Cup

Earls Barton had a tough test today in the County Cup, being drawn against a side who play 2 or 3 divisions above them. But the girls can hold their heads high because they put on a battling performance and for the first 40 minutes of the game frustrated the Corby team.

Barton got off to the worst possible start conceding from a corner with barely 2 minutes on the clock. Then for the next 38 minutes or so we managed to deny Corby any further goals, riding our luck at times admittedly, but had we converted 3 or 4 chances we made the score line may have been a bit more respectable. Barton then had a mad five minutes and conceded 5 goals to go in at half time 6-0 down.

In the second half Corby could relax knowing the game was won and put on a good display of team work passing the ball around at ease and adding another 7 goals.

Despite the score line the Corby team voted our Keeper, Hollie McKain, player of the match, our own vote going to right back Natasha Smith.

I would like to make special mention of our ref today, Ellis Clark, who was superb; friendly, precise, explaining his decisions to the players, encouraging the players and generally enjoying his role.
