EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Kettering Town 8 v Earls Barton 0

1st November 2009

Despite the score line Earls Barton played some good football in terrible conditions and were only undone by the physical strength and directness of Kettering's play.

Barton started brightly but were undone by two quick goals in the 10th and 12th minutes, which were really Kettering's first shots on goal. Megan Watkins came close for Barton when the Kettering keeper spilled a long range effort but was just able to smother the ball before Megan could get her shot away. Kettering scored another 5 minutes before half time.

H-T 3-0

After the break, with the wind and the rain lashing into the Barton faces, Kettering scored 3 quick goals again which put the game to bed. Credit to the Barton girls for continuing to play some good football with some very good individual performances from Rachel Palmer in defence, Ashleigh Goodman and Emily Baldry in the centre of the field and Katie Newman in goal who improves with every game she plays, again she was called upon to save a penalty. The two Kettering goals in the dying minutes made the score line seem like a rout, but it was far from that, Barton just lack a bit of strength in some areas.

Player of the match award goes to Katie Newman.
