Drayton Grange 6 v Earls Barton 4

Earls Barton put on a great display despite only being able to field 9 players. Ashleigh Goodman put Barton in front after 12 minutes, Megan Watkins laying the ball into Ashleigh's path, Ashleigh twisted and turned her defender and then fired high passed the keeper. Ten minutes later Barton were 2-0 up with a well worked goal between the three goal scorers. Kelly Hewitt layed the ball back to Ashleigh Goodman who in turn played the ball into Megan Watkins who shot into the top right hand corner of the net. Drayton pulled a goal back 3 minutes later before Barton restored their 2 goal cushion, Ashleigh again providing Megan who took the ball wide round the keeper. Drayton again pulled a goal back before Kelly Hewitt struck a sweet free kick from 35 yards out which sailed over the keepers head. H-T 2-4 Two silly goals immediately after the restart knocked the stuffing out of Barton for a while and they had to regroup and soak up a bit of pressure, the slope now in favour of Drayton. Barton fought hard to get back in front, but tiredness and the extra players on the opposition finally took their toll and Drayton managed to grab another couple of goals to secure the points, which if there was any justice in this game should have been shared equally. A great all round team performance from the Barton girls today who all did their jobs well and worked hard for one another in particular Megan Watkins up front and Ashleigh Goodman in midfield. |
