Earls Barton 2 v Corby Kingswood 2
10th April 2010 |
|
Barton got off to a good start with a goal from leading scorer Megan Watkins just 2 minutes into the game. Ashleigh Goodman flicked the ball on with her head for Megan to run on to and strike towards goal, the initial shot hitting the post and Megan tapping in the rebound. From there on the game was a bit of a scrappy affair the Barton girls looking tired after their week of hosting their German visitors and the game against them yesterday. Corby pressed to find the equaliser but Barton's defence held firm until half time. H-T 1-0 Corby put pressure on the Barton defence for a 15 minute spell at the start of the second half which saw them score one good goal on 50 minutes and one very fluky goal ten minutes later, one of the Barton defenders attempted to clear the ball from the 6 yard box only for the ball to smack against one of the Corby players and rebound into the net. Barton pushed to find the equaliser, with the front pairing of Ashleigh Goodman and Megan Watkins working very hard to find the net, Megan seeing a couple of chances going wide, and just as it looked like time was running out Emily Baldry crossed the ball into the box for Megan to strike a sweet volley high into the net with just seconds left on the clock. Performances of note today; Katie Newman had a good game in goal pulling off a couple of crucial saves, we welcomed back Courtney McDaid who put in a very workman like second half, Ashleigh Goodman had a good game partnering Megan Watkins up front, but my overall player of the match award goes to Megan who never stopped running, coming back to get the ball, taking on the Corby defenders and always trying to do what she does best and score goals. |
