EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Kingsthorpe Jags 6 v Earla Barton 3

14th February 2010

This game was a lot closer than the score line suggests and Jags were only able to add the extra goals during the latter stages of the game when Barton tired and had no fresh legs to bring on. But what a great game of football which went one way and then the other. Barton opened the scoring on 25 minutes when Katie Newton connected with a ball over the top of the defence and lobbed the keeper from 25 yards. Kingsthorpe drew level 10 minutes later and so the score remained 1-1 at half time.

Jags scored a second immediately after the restart but Barton did not let their heads drop and Jade Brayfield levelled 3 minutes later with a low shot inside the keepers near post. Ten minutes later Jags scored a third but back came Barton again to level the scores two minutes later. A free kick floated into the area was cleared half-heartedly the rebound finding Megan Roberts inside the 18 yard box who shot across the keeper and inside the far post.

Jags then restored their lead 10 minutes later and unfortunately this time Barton could not find a reply. Tired bodies and minds allowed for another Jags goal and an Own goal to secure the points for Jag.

Despite the result this was a good all round team performance from Barton, everybody working hard for one another, making it very difficult to single out any one particular player for the Player of the Match award. Natasha Smith put in another captains performance in the centre of defence, Lauren Perkins and Katie Newton teamed up well together in midfield as did Megan Roberts and Jade Brayfield in attack, but overall my player of the match award goes to Natasha Lowe who doesn't always get a start in the team but played her heart out on the left wing and showed what she can do.
