EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

City Belles 4 v Earls Barton 3

20th March 2010

Another great game of football between two evenly match sides, even in number with both sides only able to field 9 players this week, unfortunately for Barton it was Belles who just scraped through to take all 3 points for the second week running.

Barton started brightly and took the lead on 8 minutes, good interplay between Ashleigh Goodman, Kelly Hewitt and Megan Watkins, resulting in Megan chipping the ball into the corner of the net. Megan doubled the score on 26 minutes, receiving a great ball from Kelly Hewitt on the right wing and beating the keeper at the second attempt.

Belles pulled an all important goal back just before half time, Barton not marking up correctly from a corner allowing Belles to score through a crowded goalmouth.

H-T 1-2

Belles scored the equaliser early in the second half with a well struck shot from the right wing and within 2 minutes went ahead. Ten minutes later they took a 4-2 lead but Barton did not lay down and die, they fought hard to get back into the game and had several near misses before Megan completed her hat trick, running on to a through ball from Ashleigh Goodman and rounding the keeper. Barton pushed to get the equaliser, Megan coming closest when she headed a cross from Kelly Hewitt just wide of the goal and Kelly's shot from the right whizzing through the box with nobody able to get the all important touch to guide it home.

The Barton girls can be proud of their performance today, they worked hard for one another, played some great football and did not deserve to lose the game. With the whole team giving their all it is difficult to choose a player of the match, Jenny Wilde had a solid game in defence, Emily Baldry had a fine game playing a sweeper role, Jo Morton probably had her best game of the season linking up well with Ashleigh and Megan, Megan did what she does best and scored another hat trick and caused the Belles defence problems all game but overall my player of the match award goes to Ashleigh Goodman who ran her socks off in the middle of the park and played some great interplay with Jo, Kelly and Megan.
