Earls Barton 5 v Kingsthorpe 4
21st November 2009 |
|
A good all round team performance gave Earls Barton the result they have deserved on many occasions this season but have just not held onto. Emily Baldry struck first for Earls Barton firing high into the top of the net from just outside the 18 yard box giving the Kingsthorpe keeper no chance. Barton played some good football but Kingsthorpe struck back 10 minutes later to level the scores. Megan Watkins scored the first of her hat trick on 38 minutes running onto a good ball from Amy Green on the left, weaving through 3 defenders and slotting past the keeper. H-T 2-1 Five minutes into the second half, some good play between Megan, Ashleigh Goodman and Kelly Hewitt, ended with Megan finding the back of the net. A minute later Kingsthorpe grabbed their second to keep their hopes alive. Megan Watkins completed her hat trick on 50 minutes when Kelly Hewitt crossed the ball into the box for Megan to finish and with the score at 4-2 and Barton creating plenty of chances the game looked safe. Kingsthorpe did not lay down and die though and scored two goals to bring the game level at 4-4. I was beginning to think 'here we go again' and Barton truly did not deserve to lose the game, and lose they did not, with four minutes of the game remaining, Kelly Hewitt ran onto a defence splitting pass from Emily Baldry and this time placed the ball coolly past the keeper. Some very good performances today, notably Annalea Granger had a very good game at right back, Kelly Hewitt and Megan Watkins linked well up front but overall player of the match goes to Emily Baldry who commanded the midfield, scored a great goal and was unlucky not to score a second when her shot struck the crossbar. |
