Rothwell Town 4 v Earls Barton 1

A good game of football with the stronger team finally running out winners although Barton gave them a good run for their money, The first half was fairly even and could have gone either way, both teams creating chances. Barton were awarded a penalty on 18 minutes after Megan Watkins had been upended inside the box, Emily Baldry stepped up and blasted the ball low into the corner of the net. Rothwell pushed to get back into the game and did just that with two quick goals just before half time. H-T 2-1 After the break Rothwell piled on the pressure and secured the points with another two goals but it could have been more but for some great saves from POM Katie Newman in the Barton goal, saving a penalty just before the final whistle. Some good performances despite the result, Ashleigh Goodman worked tirelessly up front alongside Megan Watkins, but just not able to find the all important goal to top off their performances, Courtney McDaid was strong and hungry in midfield, after her two month 'retirement', but POM has to go to Katie Newman in goal who commanded her area well and made some very important great saves. |
