EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Corby Kingswood 1 v Earls Barton 2

24th October 2009

A much better all round team performance earned Earls Barton their first win of the season. Amy Green opened the scoring on 20 minutes with a sweetly struck shot from just outside the penalty area which gave the keeper no chance. Kelly Hewitt had previously smacked the ball against the post with nobody following up, but Corby too had their chances but found keeper Katie Newman in fine form, pulling off 2 spectacular saves in particular and also missing a penalty.

H-T 0-1

After the break it was Barton's turn to be awarded a penalty for a handball and Kelly Hewitt made no mistake, placing the ball in the right hand corner. Corby drew a goal back on 65 minutes and piled on the pressure looking for an equaliser but the Barton defence held firm and came home happy with the three points.

Some good performances today; Chloe Rogers came on and ran her heart out never giving up on anything, something for all to learn from, Alix Daverson was back from illness and had a good game on the right wing, Kerry Lawrence again had a good game in central defence alongside Gina Loziou, but overall my player of the match award goes to Katie Newman in goal for keeping us in the game at times and for her 2 spectacular saves in particular.
