EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Moretonville 3 v Earls Barton 7

28th March 2010

This game swung one way and then the other before Barton finally got a grip of things in the second half and came home with 3 points.

Barton started brightly Megan Watkins scoring her first of four after just 5 minutes, the keeper spilling a very slippery ball and Megan slotted the loose ball in at the near post. Moretonville equalised 10 minutes later with a cracker of a shot from the right. On 25 minutes Moretonville went ahead but Megan equalised 10 minutes later, again the unlucky keeper spilled the ball and Megan just had to tap it into an empty net. Moretonville went ahead again 2 minutes later but just on the stroke of half time Barton were awarded a free kick out on the left wing. Emily Baldry floated the ball into the box which Kelly Hewitt flicked past the oncoming keeper.

H-T 3-3

The pitch was very wet and muddy and with no subs to use we knew the second half was going to be hard work. The Moretonville forwards had caught us out in the first half, so we switched Emily Baldry and Gina Loziou at half time, and we looked more solid at the back in the second half.

Five minutes into the second half Barton were awarded a penalty for hand ball and Kelly Hewitt stepped up and blasted the ball into the back of the net. Barton pulled further ahead on 54 minutes, Megan Watkins turning provider for Kelly Hewitt to complete her hat trick. Megan then took over the scoring again with her goal of the match, running with the ball from the half way line and slotting past the keeper. Moretonville then pulled another goal back before Megan finished off her mornings work with her fourth goal this time receiving a cross from Annalea Granger, twisting and turning the defender before firing into the net.

Overall a good performance in difficult conditions, with some regular players missing and several players playing out of position. Kelly Hewitt had a much better game this week fighting hard for the ball and scoring a hat trick, Megan does what comes naturally to her and scored four goals, Kerry Lawrence was voted player of the match by the Barton Supporters Club but overall my player of the match award goes to Annalea Granger who was pushed up into midfield from her usual defensive position, battled hard and supported Kelly Hewitt well on the right wing.
