EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Corby Kingswood 2 v Earls Barton 3

21st February 2009

Another close affair between these two sides this time saw Earls Barton take the points. Earls Barton missed two glorious chances before finally finding the back of the net on 25 minutes, leading scorer Megan Watkins latched onto a through ball from Emily Baldry and slotted the ball inside the post past the advancing keeper. Seven minutes later Lucy Green scored Barton's second, the ball being cleared from a corner found Lucy on the edge of the 18 yard box who smashed the ball into the net.

H-T 0-2

After the break Corby upped their game and were boosted by a lobbed goal from a good 35 yards out on the far touch line flying over the Barton keeper into the net. Barton were under pressure then for a time as Corby searched for an equaliser but Megan Watkins eased that pressure when she scored her second on 68 minutes again picking up a neatly placed through ball for her to keep her cool and slot past the keeper. This looked like game set and match to Barton but Corby were awarded two penalties in the last 5 minutes. The first was well converted by the Corby penalty taker, but with 1 minute left to play the second penalty was well saved by the Barton keeper.

Two notable performances in the Earls Barton team today, Amy Green had a fine game in goal and saved us the points with that penalty save, but my overall player of the match award goes to Ashleigh Goodman, who put in a very good performance in midfield.
