EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Earls Barton 1 v Bourne Town 1

21st March 2009

An excellent game of football played on a beautiful spring morning. Bourne started the brighter and took the lead on 7 minutes with a freak goal which the scorer knew very little about. The ball was whipped across the box which the Barton keeper put her foot through to clear it and the ball smacked the Bourne girl on the head and rebounded into the net. The Bourne players were all congratulating the scorer but it probably took her 10 minutes to realise she had scored.

The game was quite a physical battle but hardly a foul all game showed the commitment from the teams to win the game. Barton withstood more Bourne pressure leading up to half-time to go in just 0-1 down, knowing Bourne had no subs and Barton had frees legs to bring on, Barton felt they could still get something from the game.

The second half was a reverse of the first with Barton starting more brightly and getting the equaliser 5 minutes into the half. Megan Watkins keeping up her scoring record running onto a good through ball from Lucy Green to slot past the keeper. Barton created more chances in the second half, Amy Green coming the closest with a shot just wide of the far post.

Bourne were always a danger on the break, with their two front runners very fast and the Barton defence did well to keep them under control.

Good all round performance today from all players, subs included. Katie Newman had a good solid game in goal, Lucy Green had a fine game in midfield when she came on to replace the injured Emily Baldry but overall my player of the match goes to Alix Daverson who worked tirelessly on the left wing getting back to help out when needed.
