Earls Barton 2 v Kingsthorpe 1
23rd September 2007 |
|
On another very windy Sunday afternoon Kingsthorpe and Earls Barton did battle again in a reverse of last weeks fixture. Barton had the wind with them in the first half and scored two goals before the break. Katie Newton played a defence splitting pass on 19 minutes which Katherine Sealey ran on to and slotted home. Three minutes later Sealey became provider for Donna Norman, crossing the ball to Norman who beat two defenders before scoring. Lauren Green deputising in goal, our third keeper in as many weeks, only had one save to make in the first half. Barton found the going hard in the second half kicking against the wind and picking up a few injuries. With no substitutes available today Barton were reduced to 10 players for a time with Captain Katie Newton having to leave the field for treatment to a knee injury and only limping back onto the field of play for the last 20 minutes to make the numbers up. With the wind behind them Kingsthorpe had a free kick on 70 minutes which Danielle Charlton cracked against the post from 30 yards out. Defender Rachel Callis then had to take a spell in goal as she was having trouble running. Kingsthorpe scored two minutes from time when a long bouncing ball beat the Barton defence and our stand-in stand-in keeper. With the Manager and Coach away our deputising manager Dave Green reported back that the whole team did him proud today and battled on through difficult circumstances to secure the 3 points. The visitors voted Donna Norman as player of the match and Dave gave that accolade to her sister Shelly so no arguing tonight in the Norman household |
