AFC Trinity 1 v Earls Barton 2
24th February 2008 |
|
This was not a pretty team performance from the Earls Barton girls today but a gutsy hard working one which paid huge dividends with the final whistle. Barton got off to a flyer with a goal after just 27 seconds, front girl Taleisha Holder chasing onto a through ball, the defender back passed the ball to the keeper under pressure and not being able to pick the ball up the keeper miskicked the ball and Taleisha followed up and tapped into an empty net. As the game progressed so Trinity came into it more and pressurised our defence looking to get back on level terms. The defence held out for 30 minutes with some good work between the sticks by Hollie McKain but then the equaliser came with a well struck goal. All to play for now but it was Barton that scored the all important 2nd goal just before half time, good work by Donna Norman in midfield again finished off by Taleisha Holder. After the break it was really a case of digging deep, with no substitutes available and a few players feeling under the weather, we knew Trinity were going to throw everything they had at us and we had to hold strong. Most of the second half was spent in our own half defending with the occasional break away to give our defence a breather. But hold strong we did with some good performances by Shelley Norman and Katie York in the heart of defence, Jade Brayfield on the left wing (voted player of the match by the opposition) and safe handling by keeper McKain. Barton's player of the match voted by the coach and manager, Katie York. |
