Raunds Town 2 v Earls Barton 0
25th January 2009 |
|
Earls Barton put on their best performance of the season to date to push Raunds Town all the way and were unlucky not to take a point from the game. When these two teams meet it is usually a good close game and today was no different. Barton started the brighter knocking the ball around well and had the better of the first half, always having to be alert, watching for Raunds to try and catch us on the break. When they did break through the defence and keeper held firm. Half-time 0-0 The deadlock was broken 10 minutes into the second half when one of the Raunds players cross/shot from quite a way out and the ball found the corner of the net at the far post. This knocked the stuffing out of the Barton girls for a few minutes and Raunds pushed to find a second goal, but it was Barton who came closest when Donna Norman's looping shot looked destined for the net only for the ball to bounce off the crossbar and out of play. Raunds found the all important second goal on 70 minutes and Donna Norman was again unlucky not to score when her shot hit the post - then we knew it was just not to be Barton's day. A great all round performance from the Barton girls today, having played 3 games on the trot for the first time this season the girls were playing more as a team and hopefully this will improve the more games we can get under out belts without any interruptions. Barton's player of the match today, voted by home and away management, Jade Brayfield. playing in a new central midfield role and enjoying herself. Also like to mention the referee, Michael Cronin, who had an excellent game as well today - thanks ref. |
