EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Earls Barton 4 v Raunds Town 4

28th October 2007

With several players out through injury and holidays Barton once again had only the bare bones of a team and had to play their get out of jail card to get a point today.

Just as the ref blew the whistle for kick off so the heavens opened and it certainly dampened the spirits of the Earls Barton team. Barton could not string a couple of passes together today and Raunds were playing the better football. Not a lot really happening in the first half and just as it seemed the teams would go in for the break all square up popped Lauren Care who chased the ball down to the goal line cut it back neatly for Sheryl Robinson to slot past the keeper.

H-T 1-0

With the slope now in Bartons favour and Raunds down to 10, we were looking to push on from the half time lead, but it was Raunds that found the net within a minute of the restart, Karen Britchford scoring her first of her hat trick. Two minutes later she scored no two and made it 3-1 on 70 minutes, her speed causing the Barton defence problems all afternoon.
With 10 minutes left on the clock Barton took a gamble, pushing players forward to try and get something from the game and it paid off. Lauren Care, voted player of the match by the opposition, swung in two corners, one on 85 minutes which Sheryl Robinson fired into the net and another in the 89th minute which was bundled over the line by one of the Raunds team.

Barton were thankful to hear the final whistle and claim a point. Managers player of the match today Emma Ogden.

I look forward to having a selection headache one of these weeks.
