Moulton Magpies 0 v Earls Barton 6
29th April 2009 |
|
Nearly 4 weeks without a game took its toll on Earls Barton as they struggled to string 2 passes together in the first half and 9 player Moulton Magpies were playing some good football and made it hard work for Barton. Emily Baldry scored Barton's first on 13 minutes firing past the keeper from the edge of the box. Moulton were then awarded a penalty but Amy Green stuck out a leg and saved her second spot kick of the season. No 2 for Barton was an own goal, Megan Watkins' shot across the face of the goal turned into the net by a defender. Probably the best goal of the game was scored by Emily Baldry on 37 minutes, a 25 yard screamer high into the net. The Barton girls were told some home truths at half time, although they were winning the game they were not playing the football they had been for the past couple of months and that was disappointing for the coaching staff. After the break Barton did start to play better and Katie Newman scored her first goal of the season on 44 minutes and a good goal it was too. The ball was worked down the right side of the pitch, then fed through to Katie who blasted the ball past the keeper and into the net. The team mobbed her as Katie has shared keeper duties this year with Amy Green and next season has agreed to take on the keeper's jersey full time so this was her last game playing out on pitch. Megan was not to be outdone by the other scorers and notched nos 5 and 6, the first her normal running onto a through ball and slotting past the keeper and the second she finished what nobody else could, curving a shot from inside the box into the far right corner, after a couple of other shots had pinged about in the box. A better second half performance all round but overall my player of the match today goes to Megan Watkins, who worked tirelessly to get her rewards and was unlucky not to score a hat trick (although she did try to claim the own goal but we're not giving her that one as it would have gone for a throw in if the defender had not deflected it). |
