EARLS BARTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Earls Barton 1 v Kingsthorpe Jaguars 8

30th November 2008

With only 10 players available and playing against high flying Kingsthorpe Jaguars, Barton knew they were going to have their work cut out today.
Despite the score line all 10 players worked very hard for one another and battled really well, many of them playing in unfamiliar positions.

With the rain lashing down and the temperature just above freezing it did not make for a pleasant afternoon's football but credit to both teams for playing well in the conditions. Kingsthorpe scored 1st after just 6 minutes when the Barton keeper could not hold on to the greasy ball and bundled it into her own net, 4 minutes later it was 2-0 and on 25 minutes Kingsthorpe scored a third which virtually sealed the points. But credit to Barton they kept plugging away, Amy Moore coming close on a couple of occasions before Lauren Care swung in a corner which the Keeper could not hold on to and let it slip inside the near post.

Both teams were glad of half time to go into the changing rooms and warm up for a few minutes. Kingsthorpe scored almost immediately from the kick off and then the extra player showed and Barton had their backs to the wall for most of the second half, Kingsthorpe adding another 4 before the final whistle came and I think everyone was glad to hear it.

All 10 players for Barton today deserve a pat on the back for the way they played for each other, did not moan when asked to play in unfamiliar positions and kept going to the final whistle. Rosie Crutchley played well in goal, after getting over her initial mistake, Donna Norman played well in the heart of defence but overall my player of the match award goes to Hanna Pye, who had to play at right back and did very well there, maybe a new position for her???
