Earls Barton 2 v Wooton St George 0
4th April 2009 |
|
Earls Barton took on Wooton for the 2nd time in 4 weeks after knocking them out of the League cup semi final 1-0. Wooton were looking to put a dent in Barton promotion campaign, and maintain their own charge for automatic promotion to the Prem. Barton were forced to make a number of changes with 5 regular players being injured, Barton were much the brighter in the early stages and put Wooton on the back foot straight away, forcing several corners, Barton took the lead midway through the 1st half after Wooton gave away an innocuous penalty, Kris Hall stepped up to score his 27th Goal of the season. The half finished 1-0
The second half started much the same as the 1st finished, Barton were playing some neat attractive football, and didn’t look in trouble at any stage, during the whole half, Keeper Dave Wyman got to touch the ball only a handful of times, but with Barton only 1 up, there was always a chance of Wooton scraping an undeserved point, with ten minutes to go Kris Hall scored his 2nd of the game with a delightful strike from the edge of the box into the top corner. Rich Ellson was pleased with the result, “we had lost a number of players through injury, but with the strength in depth that we have I was sure that the lads who came in would do a job for us, we were professional and clinical in front of goal, if you can keep a clean sheet at any level you stand a decent chance of winning matches and we have done that today, we need to get the injured players off the treatment table and back training as soon as possible, to give us a chance during the remaining games.
