Earls Barton 3 V Corby Pheonix 0
8th November 2008 |
|
On the back of 3 straight wins and unbeaten in 4, Barton started the game brightly, it is nice to see a side getting the ball down and passing, in recent matches many people watching the games have commented on the style of play, and how they play football. Against a strong Corby side, Barton came under some intense pressure from the direct Corby team, which the 3 centre halves lapped up, a fantastic through ball, from Nathan Jones, put Tony Abbott through 1 on 1 with with defender, with the blistering pace of Abbott, he went like the defender like he was stood still, and calmly slotted the ball under the oncoming goalkeeper. To be fair to Corby they could have felt aggrieved they were not all square going in at half time, after hitting the Barton post and bar, but the score remained 1-0.
After the interval, Barton took control of the game, and out passed the tiring Corby side, some excellent approach play play saw Kris Hall score Barton's 2nd, Abbots pace was causing all sorts of problems in the Corby defence, with Halls impressive movement and Abbots pace and work rate proving to be a real thorn in Corby's side. Rich Ellson was delighted with his sides performance "we rode our luck at times in the fast half, but to be fair we have been owed that, we have built a side full of youth and experience which really compliments each other, we have some real ball players that can pass around sides, we never looked in any danger second half, which is pleasing, and we are now finishing teams off. we now have an enforced break, with our next fixture against a UCL side in the cup, the lads have nothing to fear going into that game, as we will be massive underdogs going into the tie, but on our day were a match for any side, and Burton Park will not relish coming here in the cup". |
