Mens First Team – Earls Barton vs Wollaston

MATCH REPORT 23/08/16 Earls Barton vs Wollaston – L 0-1

This game can only be described as a nightmare for us. Midweek early in the season left us short of players and short of time to prepare. A couple of call ups from the reserves and having myself as the only substitute knew we were in for a hard night.

It was noticed from kick off that we wasn’t psychologically prepared. We were 2nd to every ball and gave the opposition too much time. Wollaston passed it around well but did little to threat. Strangely we had the best chance early on when Dayne found himself one on one with the keeper only to hit it with his weaker foot straight at the keeper. Chance goes begging.

30mins in and the Wollaston left back couldn’t believe his luck. He was able to carry the ball 20yards from the half way line without a challenge and hit a long range shot into the goal. A soft goal which should have been stopped at so many points before hitting the net. Nothing more to reflect on and HT we went in a goal down.

We came out second half full of belief despite being behind and knew we were better than the previous half. However it didn’t go to plan. It was a very ‘stop start’ half with the referee making sure his name was known. We lost Browny to a bad challenge and our players were getting more and more agitated and frustrated. We could not get momentum as the ref continued to blow when possible and produce a card when he could(to both teams). We ended up losing 1-0 and overall no complaints. A dull game which we wasn’t up for and i hope we don’t have a midweek fixture again too soon.
